Big Kitty

“Florence”

Performance on Saturday, November26th

 8pm @ Barking Legs Theater

A Thanksgiving weekend extravaganza

with Zoe Boekbinder & T.B.A.

Still searching for the top notch local Chattanooga talent?  Big Kitty is a 5 piece ensemble, led by Clark Williams that exudes a joyous stage presence and loads of happy energy.  On their full length L.P. “Florence,” released both on on vinyl and digitally, hook laden Dylanesque psychedelic folk tunes are mixed with soulful, bluesy crooning,  a kicking backbeat and just a hint of English country folk, but mostly it's a big party!

Clark Williams is a figure in Chattanooga’s young literary pursuit team, the Meacham Writer’s Conference, as well as a fixture in the local old-time music and punk rock crowds.  Other members include, Amanda Cagle, Cole Champion, Daniel Binkley, William Johnson & Yuriko Hoshino.

            Show promo

At some point Keith Richards and Bob Dylan must have combined genetics for vocal & song writing abilities, then sent their offspring to be raised in a very happy land with plenty of fresh air, sunshine and booze,  then off again to bard and minstrel school where they met their soul mates and began throwing spontaneous hoe-down parties everywhere they’ve gone.

I couldn't think of a better group for a Chattanooga Thanksgiving homecoming party and with the release of their full length vinyl and digital LP "Florence" it's bound to be a historic event, so we've invited videographers to record the show for posterity and beyond..  A show that's sure to be remembered talked about and held up for comparison.  Come out and experience Chattanooga's most distinctive musical offering to date.

Album Review

This is one of the most cohesive concept albums to come out in a while.  Unlike most locally produced fare there is no “filler” on this album.  Every song on this offering is like a heaping portion of steamy southern cooking on a big sunday dinner platter.  I’ve cleaned the plate repeatedly listening to this satisfying,  attitude laden offering.  There's plenty of swing, soul, and bluesy apalachian country crooning in the tradition of ( much more youthful versions)  Levon Helm, Hank Williams Sr.,  Bob Dylan & The Band with a consistent uplifting  attitude,  making even two part harmonies about crying all night sound joyous.  With the heavy Appalachian traditional foundation the psychedelic folk treatments and punk rock enthusiasm embedded into the songs might take You by surprise.  Case in point, the song “Nibiru”  features a story about visiting an alien spaceship.  This album successfully pulls off being truly unique as well as feeling familiar with a comfortable, joyous  groove.

Suggested Radio tracks

Since there's not a bad song on the album this is going to be pretty subjective but these are the tracks that should jump right off the vinyl onto the airwaves  as singles.
