CD, “Metrics of Affection”
(Ramseur Records)
Ramseur Records artists (home base of The Avett
Brothers, among others) Bombadil have been touring relentlessly since
their bass piano & harmonica player and founding member Daniel Michalak
began his recovery from a severe bout of neural tension in his hands that
nearly derailed the band’s considerable efforts since forming in 2004 and on
this tour they have been picked up as opening act by some of the highest
profile Americana & folk acts currently playing, as well as becoming a
headlining attraction for crowds from their native Raleigh/Durham Chapel hill
area’s vibrant music scene. Their
second appearance at Barking Legs Theater sees them returning as a longtime
mainstay of Ramseur records management with a new CD released this summer
titled “Metrics of Affection.” The
familiar voices of Bombadil (the band is named after an obscure character in
the Tolkien universe,) “whose music tells tales of loneliness, heartache,
awkwardness, puppy love, suicide and murder-by-drowning,*” is back. But now
perhaps more subdued and introspective than in past releases.
Bombadil is:
Daniel Michalak • bass,
piano, harmonica
James Phillips • drums
Bryan Rahija • guitars
Stuart Robinson • piano,
ukulele
This new album, which is their 4th full length, is
the first time they produced and recorded an album in a home studio (although
Michael Stipe does show up for a melodic trumpet accompaniment on one song
“Escalator.” This tour sees the band performing as a trio of multi
instrumentalists and vocalists, minus Bryan Rahija.
